At OPDC’s November Let’s Talk meeting, representatives from Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) shared updates and answered questions related to the Bus Line Redesign project, as well as the implementation schedule for the Oakland portion of the Bus Rapid Transit project (“University Line”). At the meeting, PRT explained that Draft Network 1.0 is a first draft of a comprehensive re-design of the PRT route system, incorporating transit demands they heard through previous studies. The intent of this project is to shorten travel times and improve the reliability and quality of existing services - which in some cases means increasing the number of different routes the authority operates. Following public comment on this draft, PRT will release Draft 2.0 in the Spring of 2025, and will provide the public with additional opportunity to comment.
PRT will collect feedback on the current Draft Network 1.0 until January 2025. You can provide input at www.buslineredesign.com.
PRT and DOMI also shared that they anticipate construction on the Oakland portion of the Bus Rapid Transit Project to begin in 2025. This project will replace the bus-only contra-flow lane on Fifth Avenue with two-way protected bicycle lanes, and add express bus lanes to Forbes and Fifth Avenues. They also addressed resident concerns about the traffic at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Robinson Street. DOMI pledged to increase signage and traffic enforcement.
