Rahsheena’s story was featured in our 2020 Annual Appeal.
Rahsheena moved into Oakland Affordable Living in 2019. She enjoys the peaceful environment, and the fact that she can walk to Western Psychiatric, where she works as a pharmacy technician.
But like many Oakland residents, Rahsheena was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, losing hours at her job, and that meant falling behind on her rent. With a new baby on the way, this was no time to face housing insecurity.
Luckily, OPDC was able to assist Rahsheena and others like her at OAL with a rent relief program. Working with OPDC’s Financial Opportunity Center staff members Camille Dixon and Alethia Bush, residents who suffered loss of work due to the pandemic have negotiated payment plans with creditors, enrolled for income supports, and received rent relief from OPDC.
Thanks to support from people like you, OPDC provided over $9,000 in rent relief for affected families in West Oakland.
