OPDC established the Oakland Community Land Trust (CLT) to preserve our neighborhood’s rich residential fabric. Through the CLT strategy, we achieve equity through housing affordability for community members from varied backgrounds and incomes.

This year, two South Oakland natives, Ty and Mi’Chael Williams, achieved homeownership and housing stability—despite the challenging market—through the Oakland CLT. Unlike most of our land trust sales, our real estate team facilitated a sale directly between the seller and buyer, while also expanding our Oakland CLT portfolio. Thanks to the seller’s commitment to our mission, Ty and Mi’Chael now reside in a South Oakland home near family and without fear of displacement.
