Every year, the University of Pittsburgh hosts neighborhood block parties for students who have moved into Oakland’s residential neighborhoods to get to know their neighbors. Long term residents are encouraged to attend to enjoy refreshments, meet these students, and speak to them about how they can be good neighbors here in Oakland. OPDC staff will attend and be available to answer any questions residents may have, as well as distribute resources to students about items such as city trash and recycling, street cleaning, using 311, and engaging with local Oakland community groups.
