What an exciting time of year at OPDC's School 2 Career program!

Fall report cards show the amazing progress students have made since we kicked off the school year. Our seniors are beginning to receive acceptance letters from colleges. Last night, all of our kids gathered in our Oakland teen center—for many, a home away from home—for the annual S2C holiday party, where we celebrated these accomplishments and gave thanks for the community members like you who support S2C. I am honored to work with these inspiring young people each day, and I hope you’ll join me in making a year-end donation to help them achieve their dreams for the future.

Here are some stories from 2017 we’re proud to share:

  • Our own Cheyenne Vining won a $2,500 college scholarship through our partnership with the Hill Youth Partnership for Enrichment (HYPE) program.
  • In alumni news, our 2009 alumnus, Sean Thomas, now serves on the board of directors for McAuley Ministries— S2C's biggest funder. He’s also pursuing his PhD in Administration and Leadership at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. We couldn’t be more proud.
  • Even as many of our students and their families struggle to get by, they inspire us with their generous spirits. This fall, our young philanthropists initiated fundraisers for hurricane victims, collected warm clothing donations for homeless people in our community, and even did a book drive for young children in South Oakland.
  • We are excited to announce that we are expanding! Our new Future Makers program, funded by McAuley Ministries, will broaden our reach to 7th and 8th graders from Oakland and the Hill District. More details to come in 2018.

A donation of $50 feeds ten students a nutritious meal, $100 provides a month's transportation for one student, and $500 covers costs of two mentored career placements. Your gift today will help more young people like Sean and Cheyenne build a bright future.

Please give today to help our students achieve ambitious goals for their futures.

Sincerely,
