The city and PWSA are transforming the parklet at Lawn and Ophelia streets from an active recreation area to a naturalized public space for stormwater management with rain gardens, vegetated curb bump-outs, and native meadow plantings.
Updates
February, 2023: Construction for the Lawn and Ophelia Stormwater Project is complete. PWSA is currently developing the maintenance plan for the site moving forward.
July 18, 2022: Construction of the Lawn and Ophelia Stormwater Project is now expected to start in early August. Construction at the parklet is still expected to be complete late fall 2022.
May 16, 2022 update: The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) hosted an online community meeting to review construction plans.
March 27, 2020: PWSA presented their plans for the parklet to the Oakcliffe resident group and presented at the Art Commission. The presentation revealed that the bump-out on Ophelia has been reduced to two spaces, trees are being added to the island on Forbes, and they have lost some of the perennial plantings along the walkway to Lawn St.
December 8, 2021: The Art Commission approved the plans at their meeting.
November 3, 2021: OPDC hosted a required Development Activities Meeting for PWSA.
