City Council is holding a public hearing on Oakland Plan Zoning.
The city is hosting Zoom open houses on Saturday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 23, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. each day. Each open house also counts as a Development Activities Meeting (DAM) for the proposed zoning changes in Oakland.

Zoning defines what can and cannot be built in a given area, and can also include requirements about how new buildings relate to the streetscape and the neighborhood at large, both physically and functionally.

Oakland Plan Zoning passed on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
September 16, 2022: While the plan was adopted by the Planning Commission in June 2022, the zoning proposals are still under negotiation in City Council. 90.5 WESA
July 12, 2022: The Oakland Plan and its Zoning Proposals have arrived at City Council.

Together with the plan, City Planning proposes three new base zones (Urban Center - Employment, Urban Center - Residential Mixed Use, and Residential Mixed Use) and the extension of the Inclusionary Zoning Overlay District to include Oakland.
